“Twenty-five years of research, using a wide variety of paradigms, shows that people make inferences about other people from their behavior, and they do this spontaneously, i.e., unintentionally and unconsciously. After briefly reviewing the evidence for this, I will focus on three questions raised by the existence of spontaneous trait inference (STI). All these questions might address the issue of whether STI is anything more than merely a specific example of the kinds of inferences routinely (and unconsciously) made during text comprehension?” >>
